I really do appreciate people asking me about L.A. and my opinion of it. When I started in L.A. as a sophomore, I didn’t have anyone to really help me figure things out. I also didn’t have the guts to ask anyone about things or classes.

I just wanted to put that out there.

I think it’s good that people are actively getting involved and interested, even if it’s just a conversation or so. It’s still a good step.

After a short summer …

After a short summer of work and basically cutting my ties with my computer I am back. Classes begun on Monday, and so begins the hopeful year and a half journey through LA Graduate school. Wish me luck.

I will still be posting my inspirations and hopes on here as well as hopefully some more of my work, both in progress and completed. I will be trying to make some time for this blog to both keep it current as well as keep my sanity and use it as a break to remind myself of the beauty and potential of LA.

According to The Dirt (the ASLA blog), painting lawns has increased along with the US drought. What a pathetic choice. The American attachment to lawns despite great alternatives needs a reality check. We, as residential designers, have an important job to do.  http://dirt.asla.org/2012/08/21/with-drought-lawn-painting-spreads/

São Paulo, Brazil Gardens

South America’s largest city, São Paulo has evolved into a hotbed for some of the most innovative landscape designs in the country — and the world

Muralist, painter, ecologist and naturalist Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994) has been referred to as the spontaneous explosion who launched modernist landscape architecture in Brazil. Like his design for Rio’s Copacabana, this 1980s rooftop winter garden for the Safra bank headquarters in São Paulo composes an abstract mural when seen from above.
